| STOKOE WINNER CAPS PERFECT WEEK FOR MAGPIES | |
James Stokoe's early goal earned Wimborne Town a 1-0 home victory over Winchester City to remain at the top of the Wessex Premier table, writes Richard Button. All photos by Seeker Photography, reprints from only £5 It was the perfect result for a Magpies side which made it through to the Dorset Senior Cup Final in midweek. Tommy McCormick, who earlier in the week was named as the winner of the FA Grassroots Goal of the Month for February, was named as Man of the Match following a typical hard-working performance. McCormick said, "We had to ground out a result today. Winchester made it difficult for us, but it was good to put up a battling performance." |
A thundering 25-yard goal from Tommy McCormick has earned the Wimborne Town midfielder the FA's Grassroots Goal of the Month award for February. | MAGPIES THROUGH TO DORSET SENIOR FINAL
Wimborne Town qualified for their first Dorset Senior Cup Final in a decade following a 2-1 victory over Poole Borough at Hamworthy United, writes Richard Button. All photos by Seeker Photography, reprints from only £5 Wimborne will face Western League Gillingham Town in the Dorset FA showpiece on 13th April The Magpies were hot favourites as they went head-to-head with Dorset Premier League Borough in this semi final encounter. And the pundits predictions seemed to be on target as Wimborne went into an early two goal lead through Tom Clarke and Gareth Barnes. But Borough struck back n the second half, grabbing a consolation goal. The only fly in the ointment was the dismissal of goalkeeper Alan Walker-Harris as both sides ended the game with 10-men. Wimborne assistant-boss Daren Powell admitted he is delighted the side are through to a cup final, but conceded the Magpies had made life difficult for themselves in the second half. “Poole worked really hard, but in the second half we didn't compete as we did in the first,” he said. Powell was also remaining tightlipped over Walker-Harris' dismissal, but described the red card as “harsh.” target="_blank">Click here to listen to Ken Fergus' match summary< Click below for David Briggs' match report... | CHUDY HAT-TRICK AS MAGPIES HAMMER NEW MILTON
Lee Chudy scored twice in Wimborne Town's last game, against Newport (IoW), and went one better with three to his name at New Milton as the table-topping Magpies ran out 5-2 winners, writes Richard Button. All photos by Seeker Photography, reprints from only £5 On a day which saw the Wessex League programme hit by postponements, Wimborne's victory saw them extend their lead at the top of the table to five points. Hailing Chudy's goalscoring prowess, Wimborne boss Alex Browne said: "Lee also hit the bar. With a little bit more luck he could have scored four or five." Admitting that the game was a dour encounter, Browne added: "It wasn't a good game to watch. But it's the result that matters." >Click here to see Ken Fergus' match summary >Click here to view the action Click below for David Briggs' match report... Click here for full story |
