WINNING RUN CONTINUES
Wimborne made it four out of four this year with a 2-0 win over Brockenhurst due to first half goals from Liam Green and Gareth Barnes.

Paul Roast made his return from injury, replacing Alex Browne in a three man back row alongside James Wilson and Sam Lockyer. The rest of the team was that which played most of the game on Tuesday, with Kev James, Liam Green, Steve Whitcher, John Wyatt and Ben Thomson in midfield and James Stokoe and Gareth Barnes up front, and Al Walker Harris in goal. Scott Joyce, Tom Clarke, Dan Haysom, Alex Browne, and Nick Hutchings were on the bench.

After Al walker-Harris made a good save in the opening minutes, Wimborne slowly got into the game and had the better of the first half. After last Tuesday’s eight goals, the Wimborne players seemed much keener to have a shot than has often been the case, but whenever they were on target they found Brockenhurst keeper Nick O’Donnell in top form. Kev James and Ben Thomson posed a constant threat down the flanks, but it was neat interplay by Liam Green and James Stokoe through the middle that lead to the first goal, on 28 minutes. Though his close range shot was well saved by the keeper, Green pounced on the loose ball to finish the job.

Three minutes before the break, Thomson was fouled on the left touchline. Tommo, back to his best with the dead ball, swung over the kick, Stokoe headed on at the near post and Gareth Barnes headed in at the far post.

Brockenhurst upped their game in the second half, which was a much closer affair. But it was Wimborne who always looked the more likely to score, and but for more heroics by O’Donnell, might easily have had at least another two or three. On 55 minutes John Wyatt smashed the ball against the crossbar from 25 yards, and with James and Thomson still creating danger from wide, Wimborne came close on several occasions.

Late in the game Stokoe and Green both left the field with minor injuries, to be replaced by Tom Clarke and Dan Haysom.

The outstanding performance of the day came from O’Donnell in the visitor’s goal, who saved the best till last with a blinding reaction save from Clarke’s point-blank header in the closing minutes.

Wimborne team: Walker-Harris, Wilson, Lockyer, Roast, Wyatt, Whitcher, Green (Haysom 82), Stokoe (Clarke 78), Barnes, James, Thomson. Subs not used: Brown, Joyce, Hutchings.
