FREE SCORING MAGPIES ROUT LAVERSTOCK
Wimborne cruised to a 5-0 victory over Laverstock & Ford with goals from Steve Whitcher, Perry Mullins (his first for the club), Gareth Barnes and two from Scott Joyce.

After two appearances from the bench Perry Mullins made his first start for Wimborne, playing right midfield, with Kev James on the left and Steve Whitcher, Liam Green and James Stokoe in the middle. Dan Haysom replaced Alex Browne at the back alongside James Wilson and Sam Lockyer, and Gareth Barnes and Tom Clarke played up front. Nick Hutchings was back in goal. New signing Lee Chudy was on the bench, together with John Wyatt, Ben Thomson, Scott Joyce and Alex Browne.

Wimborne attacked from the start, with Perry Mullins repeatedly ripping open the left of the Laverstock defence and firing in testing crosses, and Kev James, though getting less of the ball, presenting a similar threat on the other side. However, the visitor’s keeper did well in cutting out much of the danger and the Wimborne attack only created a few half chances.

The deadlock was broken midway through the half when the ball was laid back to Steve Whitcher who, from 22 yards, placed the ball beautifully over the keeper’s head into the top of the net.

In the remainder of the half Wimborne twice had the ball in the net, but a foul and an offside prevented them counting, and in spite of coming close a few times the half time lead remained a single goal.

Three minutes after the restart, Gareth Barnes laid the ball into the path of Mullins who, cutting in from the right, opened his account with a well placed shot inside the far post.

Shortly after that, the visitors had one of their few chances with a shot that curled just wide of Nick Hutchings left hand post, but Wimborne were well on top and on 64 minutes Tom Clarke wriggled between two defenders and squared the ball for Barnes to turn it in from the edge of the six yard box.

Lee Chudy made his home debut, and Ben Thomson and Scott Joyce also joined the action. Within two minutes of his appearance, Joyce was on the score sheet when he held off a defender well and squeezed the ball inside the post from six yards. Nick Hutchings then had to make a good save as the visitors looked for a consolation goal, but with four minutes remaining Joyce added his second when he collected a through ball and placed it past the keeper into the corner of the net.

It was a good all round performance by Wimborne, but the star of the show has to be Perry Mullins with his first full ninety minutes for the club.

Wimborne team: Hutchings, Wilson, Lockyer, Haysom, Whitcher, Mullins, Green, Stokoe, Barnes (Joyce 75), Clarke (Chudy 65), James (Thomson 71). Subs not used: Wyatt, Browne.
